The consultation begins with a full case history, including symptoms, onset and factors that affect them. There will also be some general medical questions to ensure you are safe to treat or may be linked to the current condition. After this you will be examined and usually asked to do some simple movements so that the movement of your joints can be observed. Some clinic tests may be performed if necessary such as reflex testing, orthopaedic tests or blood pressure. In order to see your body movements you will usually be asked to undress to your underwear, so bring some shorts or leggings if you will feel more comfortable.
Using information from the history and examination you will have your diagnosis explained to you and the treatment plan. Some treatment will be done on the first visit which may include techniques such as soft tissue massage, articulation of joints and manipulations. Exercises and other advice is usually given to ensure a faster recovery. If you have any questions or concerns at any time during your visit, please ask!
